The characterization of Ilavarasi is quite interesting - she doesn’t turn hostile immediately after the necklace is gone and even tries to bring back the shell-shocked Thenmozhi to normalcy. The desperation and the helplessness of the couple even moves you at times.

Still, once the actual plot kicks in, the horrific situation in which Karthik and Thenmozhi find themselves in and their frantic efforts to come out of it keeps you engrossed. You often wonder what a better thought-out script and strong performers would have done to this material. The cast is earnest but the acting is just functional.

Veede movie review tv#
The story picks up only in the second half and even here, the staging is flat and often, we get the impression that we are watching a TV serial. The problem is that the first half is wasted with too much of inconsequential scenes - the flashback about Karthik and Thenmozhi is not only outdated but is also filled with unwanted songs (one of which has a few cameos) and pointless and unfunny comedy scenes. Vennila Veedu could have turned out into a hard-hitting commentary on the vulnerability of the middle class when faced with an existential crisis. And, just when Karthik manages to arrange for money to pay their tormentors, tragedy strikes. Soon, Ilavarasi, too, begins harassing the couple, and even goes along with her dad’s plan to kidnap the couple’s daughter Vennila. But their misery gets only worse when Ilavarasi’s dad (Muthuraman, in a role that is as spiteful as the one he played in Vazhakku Enn 18/9) insults them and demands they get back his daughter’s jewel. Ingenious chain snatchers steal the necklace leaving Karthik and Thenmozhi in a miserable position.

But little do they realize how this will wreck not only their relationship but their lives as well. For some time, Thenmozhi and Ilavarasi seem to have become BFFs and Ilavarasi even loans her friend a costly necklace. Movie Review: Karthik (Senthil) and Thenmozhi (Vijayalakshmi) are your average couple - they are new to the city and are oblivious to the superficial nature of the relationship that they develop with Ilavarasi (Srinda) and her husband, the couple next door. Now, Ilavarasi and her dad make life hell for the couple. She borrows an expensive necklace from her friend but it is stolen.
